Reports To: Director of Development
Normal Hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Typical work week is 37.5 hours. Duties will require evening and weekend hours during performances and related events.  

JOB SUMMARY

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Portland Opera, one of the Northwest’s premiere arts organizations and nation’s leading opera companies, is seeking a superstar event manager to join our dynamic development team as our Special Events Manager.

The Special Events Manager (SEM) is responsible for promoting and sharing the brand and mission of Portland Opera through the arrangement, planning, promotion and execution of all special events for the Development department. As an integral member of the department, the Special Events Manager will collaborate with other team members to realize departmental goals, work to develop new business opportunities, and serve as an important liaison and resource for our company.

This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years professional experience and proven track record of success with VIP and fundraising events. You must have demonstrated experience with strategic planning and management of calendars of 75+ events per year, direct experience collaborating with marketing departments and contributing content to promote events through all channels, including social media.

A professional demeanor and strong customer-service focus, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive, collaborative team approach to work are essential. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database management software is required. The ideal candidate will also have development and event planning experience with performing arts organizations
