Dr. Faust has spent too much of his life studying and not enough living. When the devil offers Faust a second chance at youth in exchange for his soul, he signs the deed.

This groundbreaking production is designed by visual artist John Frame, who exhibited at the Portland Art Museum in 2012. After years in the making, Frame’s remarkable creative vision comes to the stage with his powerful and deeply evocative sets and costumes.

Jonathan Boyd returns to Portland in the title role. Jonathan was most recently here for The Rake’s Progress in 2015. Angel Blue makes her Portland debut in the role of Marguerite. Angel was discovered by Placido Domingo in his Operalia competition in 2009, and has gone on to a major international career, performing in over 35 countries in the last six years. Metropolitan Opera bass Alfred Walker will bring his interpretation of Mephistopheles to Portland.

Sung in French with projected English translations.

A co-production of Lyric Opera of Chicago and Portland Opera.

Production of Faust sponsored by The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation.
