Orpheus would rather risk death than live without Eurydice. He must charm the furies of Hades, ghosts of the dead and a three-headed dog to reach his beloved. And before he brings Eurydice back to the world of the living, there are trials yet to come.

Christopher Mattaliano is delighted to finally bring this opera to Portland for its company premiere. With thousands of rose petals, a full chorus and a ballet, this production will be directed by Chas Rader-Schieber and designed by Jacob Climer, the team that created the 2013 production of Rinaldo. Sandra Piques Eddy, last seen in Portland in the title role of Carmen, takes on the role of Orfeo for the first time. Lindsay Ohse, former Resident Artist, will portray his wife, Euridice.

Sung in Italian with projected English translations.
