RIGOLETTO

Verdi

MAY 4, 6, 10, 12
KELLER AUDITORIUM

One fateful day, the course of Rigoletto’s life changes forever. The jester, Rigoletto, is a clown in public, but in private he is a doting father. However, when a father defending the honor of his daughter puts a curse on the court jester, comedy turns to tragedy.

Our 2018 Rigoletto will be a traditional production of Verdi’s seminal opera starring Stephen Powell in the title role – one of the most in-demand Verdi baritones in the United States today. Former resident artist Katrina Galka returns to the Portland stage in the role of Gilda. Prior to her return, she will have sung major roles at Atlanta Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, and Arizona Opera, including singing the lead role of Cunegonde in Arizona Opera’s Candide.

Sung in Italian with projected English translations.
