Describe your role with Portland Opera

I am currently serving my first term on the Portland Opera Board of Directors. I am on the Leadership Development Committee. I am also active on the Community Engagement and the Cultural Equity Planning working groups.

How did you get involved with the opera?

I had been a season ticket holder for many years. Eventually, at performance intermissions I would talk to the opera staff and board members about getting more involved with the organization.

What is your favorite Portland Opera memory?

My favorite Portland Opera experience, so far, was being part of the community engagement team for our production of As One. We developed a multimedia project featuring eleven local, transgender people—consisting of video interviews, portraits for a lobby gallery installation, onstage audience welcomes, and an interview panel. It was titled "As I Am: Celebrating Trans Identities" and developed in partnership with Gia Goodrich of VEV Studios.

What would you like audience members to know?

Opera has a 400 year history and is still evolving. Opera explores, through music and song, many emotions and story lines that are relevant to our lives today. There is something for everyone!
