Describe what you do for Portland Opera

I work with the Costume Director to realize the vision of each production’s designer(s) through draping and flat patterning; cutting and construction of costume pieces, using my tailoring skills as well as my knowledge of fabrics and garment styles, working with stitchers and other costume shop staff; and fitting and finishing of costume pieces.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a child, I thought I wanted to be an architect, a fashion designer, or a writer, but mostly I wanted to escape our dairy farm in Pennsylvania and live in a penthouse apartment in Manhattan.
In my free time, you can usually find me...

In my free time you can usually find me sewing, at my spinning wheel making yarn, knitting, or in my kitchen, cooking, baking and preserving (especially jams, marmalades, and chutneys). I also enjoy quilting, biking, and trying not to kill my houseplants.

What's your favorite bike path/greenway/route in Portland?
Not too far west of Portland, my husband and I love to bike the Banks-Vernonia trail: from Banks it runs through beautiful farmland and then gently transitions to calm, cool woods after crossing the Buxton trestle.
What is the most interesting/unusual job you've ever had?
I was briefly a line cook in the show kitchen at Chef Mickey's at Walt Disney World where I had to prepare breakfast and lunch dishes in full view of the dining room, so I had to maintain a spotless uniform and be perpetually cheerful. It was not a good fit for my personality or temperament...
