Madama Butterfly Registrar Auditions

ROLE TO BE CAST
Portland Opera is auditioning for the baritone role of the Registrar in Madama Butterfly, a brief singing and acting role in Act 1 of the opera.  The Registrar is one of the Japanese officials present at the wedding of Butterfly and Pinkerton. For this production, we are specifically seeking a singer of Asian ethnicity to portray a character for this production set in Japan.

Auditions are by appointment only.  Please send an email with resume and photo to auditions@portlandopera.org.  You will be notified by August 15 if you have been granted an audition.

REQUIREMENTS
Please bring a short musical selection – no more than 32 bars – either classical, operatic, or from classic musical theatre.  A pianist will be provided.  Although the role is specified as a baritone role, it is possible that it could be sung by a tenor or bass voice.  All gender identities welcome to audition.

REHEARSAL and PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
Staging begins October 6, 2019 – there will be no weekday rehearsals for this role; all services will be weekday evenings or on the weekends.
Performances are October 25, 27, 31 and November 2, 2019.
