Describe your role with Portland Opera

I am principal percussion for the orchestra. I have held that position since 1997. I did some section playing for the orchestra in 1992, 1995 and 1996 as well.

What music/book/movie/show/poem/place/moment is currently inspiring you?

Currently? I'll pick a book: The Food Lab. It's about the science behind better cooking. I also found Michele Obama's book "Becoming" to be quite inspiring.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Various careers ideas came and went - quickly I might add, but nothing came close to the passion I had for music performance.

In my free time, you can usually find me...

Watching the Great British Baking Show.

What has your favorite quarantine activity been?

I can say I've become a better cook, and I've done 5 years worth of yard work in one summer.

What is your favorite Portland Opera memory?

My favorite Opera to play was Nixon in China, but I have say La Boheme in 2009. It's when I started dating my wife - Portland Opera flutist Rachel Rencher.
