Describe your role with Portland Opera and how long you've been involved with the organization.
I'm a Board Member with Portland Opera, which has been such a rewarding way to support the organization I love, both behind the scenes and out in the community.
How did you get involved with the opera?
I got connected through Christina Post at a community event. Music has been part of my life since I was a kid, I grew up really involved in orchestra, and that early love of music just naturally carried over into a love of opera as an audience member. There’s something about sitting in that audience and experiencing it all come together, the orchestra, the voices, the staging, that hooked me. It didn't feel like finding something new, more like finally landing where I was always headed.
What is your favorite Portland Opera memory / what are you most looking forward to?
As someone who's attended a few operas, what gets me every time is seeing how much work goes into these productions, and how the community shows up for it. Doesn't matter if it's someone's first opera ever or a person who's been coming for decades, there's something special about watching that all come together. Looking forward, I'm really excited to get even more involved locally and help bring more people from our community into the opera world.
What would you like community members to know?
Just that opera is for everyone. You don't need to be an expert or have been coming for years to belong here, first timers and longtime fans are equally welcome. I care a lot about connecting Portland Opera with the wider community, and I'd love to help more people find their way to experiencing it.
