When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A doctor, a vet, a writer, a pilot, an astronaut, and an archeologist. Maybe not all at once?

In my free time, you can usually find me...

Answer one: Free time? What's that? Answer two: Engaging in unstructured creative nothingness.

What is your favorite Portland Opera memory?

The first and only time I subbed with the Opera before becoming a member, I played Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera. You may remember that extremely famous trumpet moment! Oh you don't? That's because we played one aria 15 minutes into the opera. Once we were finished playing, we were allowed to leave. It was summer, and as I left to enjoy the rest of my warm evening, the consternation on the faces of the string players who had two hours of 16th notes left brought me such joy.

What's your favorite Portland coffee shop, brewery, cidery, or winery?

Even though I only drink decaf, I do a lot of my software engineering work at coffee shops, and I've developed a bit of a rotation: Dragonfly in NW is an exceptional treat, especially on dark, cold, wet Portland days. Cafe Cinco Siete, Fairlane, and Blue Kangaroo are all Sellwood favorites. JoLa in South PDX. Rain or Shine and Coquine near Tabor. Oui Presse!

Do you have hike/park/scenic view in Oregon that inspires you?

Before and during the pandemic, I lived on Mount Tabor. I walked on that dormant cinder cone almost every single day. Watching the sunset over the city and the moonrise over Mount Hood never ceased to inspire awe.

What's your favorite season in Portland/why?

Spring for the smells and colors (I don't get allergies). Summer for the dry heat. Fall for the crispness and flannels. Winter for the fires and cozy feelings. Oh, did I have to choose one?

What is the most interesting/unusual job you've ever had?

For about six years I grew an ice cream sandwich business from a farmer's market stand into six stores. I have very little feeling in the tips of my fingers from handling -20 degree metal, and I have a preternatural ability to scoop perfect ice cream scoops.
