Describe what you do for Portland Opera

I provide theatrical properties for the productions. My work includes determining what is needed through communication and then devising ways to accomplish what is needed, whether it is purchased or constructed.  It involves elements of project management, design, knowledge of period and theatrical style, painting, sewing, carpentry, set dressing, and special effects as well the practicalities of getting everything running backstage. I always scored high on the 'Use of Resources' section of those standardized tests from elementary school.

What music/book/movie/show/poem/place/moment is currently inspiring you?

Dame Evelyn Glennie, Angelique Kidjo, Ka by John Crowley, copying Frida Kahlo's diary which evolved into copying other works, Picasso, Diego Rivera, Six Memos For The Next Millennium by Italo Calvino, Wintering by Katherine May, and playing Italian folk on my vintage Neapolitan mandolin. Currently fixing my timing on "O Sole Mio" by using a recording of Enrico Caruso.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A monkey.......or maybe an architect.....

In my free time, you can usually find me...

Sketching, painting, playing music, doing Qigong

What is your favorite Portland Opera memory?

Our production of Galileo Galilei.
