Portland Opera, one of the Northwest’s premiere arts organizations and nation’s leading opera companies, is preparing for an exciting celebratory 50th Anniversary Season in 2014-15. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for this key position.  The Portland Opera Marketing and Communications Department works as a team to promote and support Portland Opera’s productions as well as the Broadway Across America series it co-presents.  Each position has a defined focus in order to provide maximum clarity and efficiency in the department’s operation. Department staff members serve as a resource to each other while respecting others’ areas of concentration, with the understanding that on an as-needed basis they will be asked to participate more substantially in other areas.


The OMCM works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) to develop and execute a wide range of activities designed to enhance short- and long-term ticket revenue, attract new audiences, enhance the relationship with Portland Opera’s existing audience, and increase Portland Opera’s presence in the community.  Areas of focus include:  subscription and single ticket sales and promotion, media and public relations, publications, website and social media, and events and community relations.

 

The successful candidate should be positive, creative, highly organized and outgoing with a strong collaborative, team-oriented attitude.  A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field is required with a minimum of 3-5 years in arts marketing.  Candidates without a related degree will be considered with 8-10 years of marketing or communications experience.  Experience in performing arts marketing a must; familiarity with the opera art form a plus.

Portland Opera, one of the Northwest’s premiere arts organizations and nation’s leading opera companies, seeks an enthusiastic, positive, experienced individual to join a dynamic development team.  The Senior Giving Manager plays a key leadership role in Portland Opera’s development team and is responsible for growing the Camerata Circle membership of donors of $2,500 or more.  This position is directly responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of all individual donors and foundations of $2,500 to $10,000+.


The Senior Giving Manager leads Board members in their cultivation and solicitation efforts.  They also oversee all cultivation and solicitation events and activities for the Opera’s major donors, is the primary staff leader for the Opera’s annual fundraising gala, and provides support to the Portland Opera Guild’s annual fundraising event.


The Senior Giving Manager reports to the Director of Development and directly supervises the work of the Financial Administrative Assistant, as well as any part-time or contracted grantwriting staff.    


The successful candidate should be positive, creative, highly organized and outgoing with a strong collaborative, team-oriented attitude.  They must have a record of proven success in direct cultivation and solicitation of individual and foundation gifts of $1,000 or more, as well as experience in organizing and conducting large special events a.  Experience with a fundraising database – particularly reporting and analysis – as well as intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are also required.


Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in of general non-profit development experience including work in individual giving, foundation grantwriting and special events management.  Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills are required.  A love of opera and/or the performing arts is a plus.
