Aimee Lee Chalfant

Soprano
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a leading lady in a movie musical paired with Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, or Gene Kelly. I would have been willing to settle for being a trumpet player like Harry James or being a big band vocalist like Helen Forrest.

In my free time, you can usually find me...

Supporting live music by being a groupie of the bands in which my husband plays trombone.

What is your favorite Portland Opera memory?

Standing in the rehearsal room at the Keller Auditorium for chorus warm-up on a performance night listening to the chorus men sing the Ghost Chorus in Wagner's, "The Flying Dutchman". I've had the pleasure two different times - once with Maestra Carol Lucas and once with Maestro Rob Ainsley.

What's your favorite Portland coffee shop, brewery, cidery, or winery?

Starbucks at SW Hall Blvd and SW Cedar Hills Blvd. I like the Art Deco inspired styling of the building exterior.

Do you have hike/park/scenic view in Oregon that inspires you?

The view of the beach from the Inn at Spanish Head is particularly inspirational.

What's your favorite season in Portland/why?

Autumn is my favorite season in Portland on the days with the bright blue clear sky and the gorgeous red, gold, orange leaves on the trees. The trees are beautifully illuminated by the sun during clear autumn days.

Do you have a favorite local visual artist/musician/filmmaker/performer that you think everyone should know about?

Bryant Byers - Trombonist, chanteur and performer extraordinaire.

What is the most interesting/unusual job you've ever had?

Working at the Los Feliz Community Theatre in Los Angeles, CA building sets, costumes, props and running lights for productions.
